320 Vincellette St (Otto-1)

Fire at city officer's house probed

A dog in a cage was burned and another was OK Sunday when a garage fire burned at the home of a Bridgeport police officer who was not present at the time. Fire Chief Bruce Porzelt said arson investigators were called in on the case, as well as the Bridgeport Police Department because one of their own officers owned the home at 320 Vincelette St. The call came in just before 1 p.m. to the 2-story wood-frame Colonial. The fire began in an interior wall of the garage and was confined to the garage and entrance to the basement, he said. Recall was at 1:15 p.m. Two aerial trucks and four engines fought the blaze.

Bridgeport fire victim identified
BRIDGEPORT — The woman who died in an early-morning fire in her Saunders Avenue home has been identified. Charlotte Keoshgerian, 62, apparently died of smoke inhalation in the fire that erupted at her home at 389 Saunders Ave. shortly before 5:30 a.m. today. Fire crews found heavy smoke billowing from the wood-frame structure and had to force their way into the dwelling, according to fire Capt. Luis Rivera, the department spokesman. The woman was found in the kitchen, although early indications are the fire may have been started in a bedroom. When found by firefighters, the woman was unresponsive, and she remained unresponsive when ambulance personnel tried to revive her. The woman was apparently the only person in the home, Rivera said. Fire inspectors remained on the scene several hours, but the cause of the blaze remains undetermined, he said.

32 Raleigh Rd (Otto-1)

Electrical fire damages Bridgeport home
AARON LEO ConnPost 06/13/2008

BRIDGEPORT — A possible electrical fire damaged the top floor of a 1947 Cape Cod home at 32 Raleigh Road late Thursday. The home is owned by Ottilie B. and John M. Butz and is assessed at $128,810, according to Web-based city land records. The homeowners weren't immediately available for comment. Deputy Fire Chief Robert Petrucelli said a woman and her mother live in the home. The daughter told firefighters her lights flickered Thursday night and she went to check the breaker box. When she returned upstairs, "she said the second floor was starting to fill with smoke," Petrucelli said. Firefighters were called about 11:15 p.m. The woman escaped the fire unharmed. Her mother was not home at the time. The cause is being investigated by an inspector from the Fire Marshal Division, according to Petrucelli. There are two bedrooms upstairs, and the firefighters had to pull down the upstairs ceilings to prevent the fire from spreading, the deputy chief said. Some water leaked downstairs to the first floor, he added. Firefighters were still putting out little areas of fire in the roof shortly after midnight Friday.

BRIDGEPORT - The Alpha and Omega Church of Christ in Bridgeport was heavily damaged by a fire that broke out around 1:30 a.m. Friday, investigators said. The church is located on the first floor of a multi-story building at the corner of James Street and Harral Avenue. Fire officials said when they arrived at the scene, the fire was already raging on the first floor. Fire fighters were forced to break down the back door to get inside. According to Assistant Fire Chief Chris Martin, the interior of the church was heavily damaged, but no one was hurt. Arson investigators will be looking into the cause of the fire. Pastor Kenneth Brown, who runs the church with his wife, said they lost hundreds of dollars worth of music equipment in the fire.
