65 Steuben St (Baker-2)

Just as the day shift was getting ready to break, FCC sent the initial assignment for 65 Steuben, unit #18. Maintenance 3 gave the first report of heavy smoke showing. The 2-story TOWNHOUSE unit was completely burned out but the flames did not extend to the attached exposures on the left and the right. One civilian injury reported.

Fire victim remains critical
BRIDGEPORT — A Steuben Street woman forced to jump from a second-floor window when fire trapped her in an apartment Thursday remains in critical condition in Bridgeport Hospital. The unidentified woman, who lives in the duplex at 65 Steuben St., suffered burns to her hands from opening the window and unspecified injuries from the 10-foot fall. She and another person were displaced by the fire, which gutted their half of the duplex. The fire broke out at 3:53 p.m. and firefighters extinguished it in 10 minutes. Its cause is under investigation. Henry Polite, the Fire Department's arson investigator probing the blaze, could not be reached for comment Friday evening.
