The "Jayson Building" is one of numerous vacant downtown commercial structures. Light smoke showing revealed little about the large fire that was cooking on the third floor of this 4-story Type III building. Several interior (windowless) offices were involved. Renovations over the years left two, and sometimes three, ceilings throughout. With concealed fire rapidily spreading along floor joists, the possibility of extension to the fourth floor, and attached exposures on the "B" and the "D", Bat 1 wasted no time adding extra companies to the ticket (technically a second alarm). The fire was brought under control with interior handlines and lots of truck work.
