Man injured in car fire

BRIDGEPORT - A man was burned and a detached garage heavily damaged when a car's fuel pump started a fire Tuesday. Wong Walker, who was working in the garage, suffered burns to his left hand and leg, fire officials said. He was released after treatment at Bridgeport Hospital. The fire broke out at 12:46 p.m. in a brick garage at 415 Putnam St., provisional Assistant Chief Bruce Elander said. The blaze, confined to the garage, was under control by 1:03 p.m., Elander said. He said the car, which was parked in the garage, was destroyed. The nearby house was damaged by heat from the fire, but its residents were not forced to relocate, Elander said. --Aaron Leo--
