An occupied 2.5 story SFD marked the first job for 2006. Less than 12 hours into the new year, a full assignment was sent to the above address and companies found heavy fire on the first floor extending to the second floor.

Fire leaves family homeless

BRIDGEPORT — A Bishop Avenue family is staying with relatives after a fire that spread from their Christmas tree destroyed their single-family home on New Year's Day. A pet parakeet died in the 11:40 a.m. fire at the Bishop Avenue house. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries. The fire was under control in 20 minutes. Homeowner Rene Domenech and his daughter Jessica were treated at Bridgeport Hospital for smoke inhalation, firefighters said. The fire caused roughly $150,000 to the 1-story Colonial, firefighters said. The investigation continues.
