Tens was sent to investigate smoke outside and an injured person. Engine 10, Lt. Dibble commanding, arrived on scene and found a working basement fire with an adult male standing out front burned from head to toe. He asked for the box and almost got it.

East Side fire victim still 'critical'

BRIDGEPORT — An East Side man remained in critical condition Monday following a fire at his home. Eleso Lopez, 59, was being trated in the burn center at Bridgeport Hospital. Fire officials said Lopez was using a solvent to remove tile adhesive from the basement floor of his home on Harvey Street Sunday afternoon when the fumes were ignited by his gas heater. Lopez suffered extensive burns in the small fire.
