BRIDGEPORT — A multi-family house owned by a local Jewish school was heavily damaged by fire Wednesday morning. Fire Capt. Luis Rivera said the cause of the blaze at 1133 Madison Ave. remains under investigation. No one was injured or displaced by the fire. The house is owned by Mark Breiner and associated with the Talmudic Institute of Connecticut, a Jewish school that sits behind the house. Rivera said the school was not damaged by the fire. The fire broke out about 8:30 a.m. in two rooms on the second floor of the building, Rivera said. In addition, the fire destroyed a portion of the building's roof, he said. "Firefighters were able to knock the fire down pretty quickly and saved more than 70 percent of the building," he said. Rivera said arson investigators and police are at the scene trying to determine the cause of the blaze. He said there was no one in the building at the time of the fire. The house is in a mixed residential and commercial neighborhood, three blocks north of Capitol Avenue.
