Size-up: Occupied two-family (perhaps illegal three-family). 26' by 56', 3275 sq ft.
Conditions on arrival: Smoke showing from the attic and eaves.
Situation: The fire started in the ceiling on the first floor, spread horizontally to the exterior "D" wall, and vertically to the third floor.
Outcome: Diligant work by all companies involved meant an occupied home didn't have the 3rd floor and roof burnt off.

Connecticut Post article Last Updated:02/08/2007 12:54:05 AM EST
BRIDGEPORT — A fire late Wednesday ignited the roof of a South End building containing kerosene and propane tanks, capping off a night of three small fires throughout the city. None of the tanks exploded, said Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Porzelt. No one was injured in any of the fires. The South End fire broke out in the yard of a scrap metal business on South Avenue at 11:23 p.m. American Medical Response medics spotted the fire from Interstate 95 and reported it, Porzelt said. Debris in metal barrels ignited and the wind blew the flame onto a wooden overhang along the building and onto the roof, Porzelt said. The overhang was destroyed and firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof, the assistant chief added. The cause is under investigation, he said. The freezing cold weather hampered firefighters' efforts because a hydrant on South Avenue was frozen, Porzelt said.

Posted Feb. 3, 2007 WTNH.com
(Bridgeport-WTNH) Police say the woman was in her bed when a vehicle smashed through the walls of her condo on 462 Glendale Avenue Saturday morning. Luckily, the woman was not injured. It turns out no one was driving the car, which police say rolled down an embankment into the condo. The car also damaged a gas main. Police say the car may have been stolen and then abandoned. There have been no arrests in the case.
