Bridgeport fire victim identified
BRIDGEPORT — The woman who died in an early-morning fire in her Saunders Avenue home has been identified. Charlotte Keoshgerian, 62, apparently died of smoke inhalation in the fire that erupted at her home at 389 Saunders Ave. shortly before 5:30 a.m. today. Fire crews found heavy smoke billowing from the wood-frame structure and had to force their way into the dwelling, according to fire Capt. Luis Rivera, the department spokesman. The woman was found in the kitchen, although early indications are the fire may have been started in a bedroom. When found by firefighters, the woman was unresponsive, and she remained unresponsive when ambulance personnel tried to revive her. The woman was apparently the only person in the home, Rivera said. Fire inspectors remained on the scene several hours, but the cause of the blaze remains undetermined, he said.

Child badly burned at Salem St. fire
BRIDGEPORT - A two-alarm fire in the city's north end sent one child to the hospital with serious burns and left three families homeless. Fire officials said that the three-story home at 234 Salem St. was heavily involved when fire companies arrived just after midnight. Three ladder trucks and five fire engines responded to the blaze. Deputy Chief Ivan Fossesigurani said that five people in all were transported to the hospital, and that one of them, a child, received serious burns. "We were able to keep it from spreading to the surrounding buildings," he said. "We were lucky - they were real close to each other." The investigation into the cause of the blaze is continuing.
